Our Commitment to Sustainability

We’re dedicated to reducing our environmental impact while supporting our local community and fostering inclusivity. Here's how we’re making a difference:

Our Environment

We’re committed to sourcing our ingredients as locally as possible, from Brancaster mussels and North Norfolk potatoes to seasonal produce from nearby farms. Whether it’s shrimp from King’s Lynn or pork from Priors Hall Farm, every ingredient we use is chosen with sustainability and minimal food miles in mind.

We believe every ingredient should be used to its fullest potential. From creative initiatives like our Nose to Tail events and the Full Cycle Composting programme to transforming unsold croissants into stunning bread puddings, we’re dedicated to minimising waste and reducing our environmental footprint.

We’re proud to use rapeseed oil in our cooking - genetically unmodified and allergen-free - to ensure a healthier, more sustainable option for our customers. Additionally, we recycle approximately 28,000 litres of used cooking oil into biodiesel annually, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

All our electricity comes from 100% renewable sources, powering our kitchens, bars, and guest facilities with the future in mind.

Our People

We believe in looking after the people who make The White Horse special. From fostering personal growth to creating a supportive and inclusive workplace, we’re dedicated to the well-being of our team. We invest in their development, encourage a healthy work-life balance, and create opportunities for them to thrive.

We’re proud to say that 51% of our management team has been promoted from within, with 60% of our leadership team staying with us for over five years. We nurture talent and believe in creating opportunities based on merit, encouraging growth at every level.

Our commitment to inclusivity means creating a workplace that reflects the diversity of our community. Everyone who walks through our doors - team member or guest - feels welcome, valued, and respected.

Our Communities

We’re more than a gastro pub and seafood restaurant... we’re part of the community. From quiz nights and oyster festivals to fireworks displays and carol singing, we aim to celebrate Norfolk’s traditions and create spaces where people can connect and share special moments.

Supporting local charities is at the heart of what we do. Over the years, we’ve hosted countless life celebrations, raising thousands of pounds for causes close to our hearts, such as The Fishermen’s Mission in Norfolk and the Garden House Hospice in Hertfordshire.

We proudly support initiatives like Only a Pavement Away, which helps people rebuild their lives through opportunities in hospitality. By giving back, we aim to make Norfolk and its communities stronger, now and for the future.
